Extraterrestrial, do they exist?

By: Seon (The Grenadian Freethinker)

I don’t know, but here is my view.

I am a Nuwaubian and a freethinker; can I be both? Being a black African, my DNA, speaking in a metaphoric sense, is laden with what academia calls “Mythology.” Certainly, I have no ax to grind with mythology. In fact, I love mythology. However, unlike many, including religious believers, I refuse to accept myth as facts. On the other hand, there are aspects of ancient African stories that have been proven, by way of our methods of investigation called science, to be true. For example, the African Dogon who speaks about the planetary body Sirius which they claimed rotates around another planet. This aspect of Dogon myth was found to be exact, and in 1920 the other planetary body was named Sirius B, identified as a “White dwarf.” Although, some have objected, arguing that the Dogon could not have known this information because they had no telescopes/observatories at the time, no-one has proven that the Dogon had learned this information from someone else. In fact, these objections includes such assumptions as, the Dogon receiving their information of Sirius from Europeans who went among them and conveyed astronomical knowledge to the Dogon's priests; however, these assumptions fail to explain how could the Dogon map out the rotation of Sirius so precisely, or the super-density of Sirius B, etc.

Also, the black Africans, called in the history books Sumerians, wrote about our planetary system and mapped it out correctly which includes showing the correct number of planetary bodies on their maps. Also, each planetary body was in its correct order, much like our scientists have recorded them today. These are interesting because what was considered to be part of a mythical story have been proven to be true. However, on the other hand, these facts do not prove that extraterrestrials exist, but there is a possibility that they do, and as we advance in science we may be able to prove that to be true.

It is not rational, I believe, to accept that some unknown, unproven “God” creates all these solar systems we now come to know exist, but yet creates life on one small planet (Earth) in one small solar system that also has other planets. Why all the extra planets and solar systems if life on earth was the only thing unique or of concern to God?

As a Nuwaubian, I know that I have no proof of the existence of extraterrestrials, and I will be intellectually dishonest to chastise religious people for accepting their God/Jesus or Gods as literally existing without providing the proof to substantiate their claims, but yet accept Anu, Marduk, the Nommos etc. without doing the same. There are no reasons for me, at this point, to accept these beings spoken of in the ancient texts as being real physical beings. Yet as myths their stories, in my view, make much more sense than that of the monotheistic religions have to offer. In fact, the argument that the three western monotheistic, Abrahamic religions, Judaism, Christianity and Islam, are all re-cycled myths from the old world, ancient people is unquestionable.

Nevertheless, the truth is, earth and the humans on it are all in space and so are all the other solar systems; thus, as a result, there is a high probability that there are beings out there.

What do you know or think?
